Schwinn "News Flash" Bulletins LOT: 1970 to 1984 - Plus 1981 Bicycling Magazine / Advertisements / Sales Register / Calendars / Color Guide...
This lot of bulletins and extras contains a deep dive into the history of Schwinn Cycles! These News Flashes were mini-newsletters that were sent to dealers between their monthly "Schwinn Reporter" papers. They date from 1970 at the earliest, to 1984 at the latest. They're not in date order, but I believe this is a fairly complete lot. I can't promise it's every single edition, but it's likely close.
News Flashes provided the shops with invaluable information related to when new catalogs were coming out, Schwinn racing team info, new models, rushes of new Schwinn dealers and competition, tips for running your shop, service clinics, sales analytics, and so much more. There are countless photos of bikes such as the Paramount, Stingray, Twin, Fastback, and many more.
A highlight of the lot is a May 1981 edition of Bicycling Magazine with a young Tom Ritchey and his golden retriever on the cover. The edition is primarily focusing on the new sport of mountain biking, and has some great stories from the mtb founding crews from around Marin, CA and Crested Butte, CO.
In addition to the news flashes, there are two calendars from the 1980's, many "Speedy Wheeler" comics, a paint colorguide that includes paint samples of Coppertone & Lemon Peel, a poster of the red white and blue Centennial paint jobs on a couple Stingray models & lightweights, ads for the Stingray Sneaker, Scrambler, BMX racing components, Phantom, Sidewinder mtb, Top Deck Carrier, a sales and technical guide, and many more.
*All of these catalogs came from a closed Schwinn dealer called Kings Cyclery in Casper, Wyoming that I bought out. Everything was ordered directly from the Schwinn factory.
Overall the newsletters are all in excellent condition. Most of them are free from dirt, stains, tears, holes, ripped hole punches, etc. Most are still stapled/binded together as shipped, and a few are separated. Ads and calendars are in great shape.
