Saavedra Needle Bearing Headset: C-Record Clone - 1990's - Black Ano - 1" Threaded - 90 Grams (Near Mint)
This little curiosity is the lightest threaded headset I've held in my hands at 90 grams. It is completely alloy except steel press-in races, with resin roller/needle bearing retainers. Aesthetically, it is EXTREMELY similar to the Campagnolo C-Record headset. The only real noticeable difference to the shape is the wrench flats are just a millimeters wider on the Campy. The Campy has standard ball bearings, yet the cups externally are the same size/shape essentially. It also is a bit differennt than the Saavedra Super Competition, which has more ovaloid cups like the Stronglight Delta headset. It does have the same "Pridel Argentina" stamped roller bearings as the Saavedra. Both the Campy and the Saavedra SC have engraved logos on the cup, while this one is completely free of any engravings or logos.
It would pass as a black ano C-Record if you didn't tell anybody. It's also a conversation starter! Super obscure and rare.
Near mint, barely used condition. There are random tiny marks in the ano that are visible up close, but it looks very nice. No tool damage. Clean enough for many show bikes
