Before Tullio Campagnolo invented quick releases in 1927, the best method of wheel attachment was the axle wing nut. They provide a tool-free installation and removal, vs traditional axle nuts which require a wrench. Today, they are loved by fixie riders and for vintage bicycles for a touch of class or originality.
These are made by Shimano, likely in the 1980's or even late 1970's. Included are two for front axles with standard 5/16" threads.
*Wingnuts are inherently more dangerous to operate than axle nuts or quick releases. They are only as tight as you can make them with your hands. They must be checked on a regular basis. Not recommended for those without mechanical know-how.
New old stock. Some factory grease residue on bottom.
