Kooka I-Beam Hellfire Camo Crankset & Chainrings: 175mm 44/32/24t
Kooka (short for the Australian bird, Kookaburra) is known for their short run of high quality, high bling factor mountain bike parts in the 1990's anodized era. This is a very rare color scheme called Hellfire (via a German Kooka ad in the images). It's half red, half black/deep purple with gold "camo" or "splash". The big ring and NOS granny ring are Kooka, the middle is a Blackspire. The vibrant red granny contrasts the two black rings very nicely.
This model is also referred to as the I-beam crank. This the 2nd or 3rd generation crank, which has fixed the non-drive arm cracking issue the 1st gen cranks had. Kooka added 2mm of material around the taper on the non-drive arm to add strength. They also have the milled arm ends (which lighten the arms and keep them from looking bad when they scrape) that the 1st gens did not have.
Great used shape. The colors on the arms and rings are vibrant, but maybe VERY slightly faded? (or maybe the red was really an orange-ish red from the factory) Arms have minimal scratching and a bit of heel rub. T Arm ends are barely scraped up. The chainrings have lots of life left, and no missing teeth. Aside from the usual anodizing chain wear on the teeth, the rings look great. Red Kooka granny ring is new. The chainring bolts look great, and the spider is nearly perfect. Tapers and threads in great shape.
