Cinelli Mod #1 Road Quill Stem: 90mm x 25.4mm - No Logo - 1950's - 1960's - Chrome Plated Steel (MINT)
This iconic Italian chrome fillet brazed stem was the first component from the workshop of Cino Cinelli. Your eyes are led there along the path of the sultry chrome finished curves of the quill and extension, and land on the lovely cap of the clamp bolt. These were found on Cinelli and other Italian top level road bicycles from the late 1940's, 1950's, 1960's, and perhaps very early 70's.
This one curiously does not have the oval trademark on the extension or a badge. No markings on the stem anywhere. In all other manners it matches the proportions and fine details of a typical Model 1 stem. Speculations include it was engraved a bit lightly and the chrome plating from the factory completely obscured the logo, or it was refinished somewhere in it's life and the logo removed. It fits my tastes, as less logos is better in my book!
Almost completely mint, very lightly ridden condition! This is about as show worthy as they get without being NOS. The chrome is brilliant and clear everywhere above the quill relief slots. There's some light microscratching, but no deep scratches, pitting, rust, etc. The only spot of rust on the stem itself is the unchromed edge under the quill bolt, and the edge at the bottom of the quill as well as a bit on the wedge.
