56cm Diamondback Racing DBR Prevail TT Titanium Road Frame + Kinesis Carbon 1" Fork: Vintage 1995 - Polished - Sandvik Built
Rare mid 1990's Diamondback Racing titanium road bike frame, built by Sandvik in Washington state. The "TT" in the name was their suffix for all their TiTanium frames, I guess they wanted to be unique? It was hand built from 3/2.5V ti ovalized and shaped custom drawn tubing, with oversized & tapered stays, OS top/downtubes. The drop outs are extra thick & water jet cut 6/4V, with "windowed" cutouts. These dropouts are welded to the stays with some uber fancy welding and tapering (maybe a welder can explain what they did here?). Chainstay bridge is one of the thickest I've seen, and the brake bridge is reinforced with a wrap of ti sheet around the brake hole. In short, this is going to be much stiffer than classically designed ti frames from Merlin, Litespeed, etc. For the 1990's this was way ahead of it's time.
It's mated to a rare 1" threadless Kinesis EMS carbon fork. This is a period correct upgrade from the original Diamondback carbon-coated alloy threaded fork. If you plan to go threaded, I'll sell the frame without it for $50 less (Use code "NOFORK" at checkout).
These typically came from the factory with a matte brushed finish. This one has had the decals removed and given a lovely polish. No decals for a super clean and stealth look, but if you want some branding Velocals can likely make you reproduction decals. The Prevail TG (steel) was introduced in 1993, and I can only find the TT in the catalog from 1995. This is one obscure beast.
Excellent condition! It has microscratching throughout in the polished ti finish. It looks just fine as is, or you can easily polish it to make this look brand new! No dents/cracks/damage. Carbon fork is almost mint, hardly a mark. Driveside chainstay shows no chainsuck/drop marks. It seems like it's seem relatively few miles.
