1991 Klein Attitude: MC1 Fork/Bars, Backfire, Catalog Spec w/ Ringle, M/L 19" EXC
This 2nd year Attitude is built to XT catalog spec, with the appropriate addition of 3DV purple Ringle components as were often found on these machines. Full XT gruppo, and the hard to find stock Avocet R30 Gelflex saddle. It's in lovely condition, with only minor blemishes. It even comes with the original owners manual!
The early Klein Attitude is one of the most sought after of vintage mountain bikes. They were way ahead of their time with a stiff aluminum frame, oversized headset, and integrated handlebars and stem. They were designed as a pure race bike. They're happiest when pushed to the absolute limit. Rail it around a corner at speed and it will playfully lose and then regain traction at the optimal moments. Nearly zero power is lost from the pedals to your wheels. It's certainly not designed to be a comfortable all day ride.
It features the original MC1 Mission Control quill fork and handlebars. The color is "Backfire". It's a lovely yellow to red to pink fade.
Excellent to near mint lightly used condition. Overall, it's a show bike that looks like it's never been ridden with the exception of the blemishes noted in this paragraph. The original paint and decals overall look wonderful. Up close, you'll notice a few small blemishes. They include a couple chips on the fork ends, a chip on the drive-side seatstay near the cable stop, a chip to the right of the non-driveside KLEIN decal. There's another section of chips on the drive-side fork leg near the “N”. That same “N” on the drive-side fork decal has a tiny chip, though the rest of the decals are mint. The outsides of the fork legs had an aftermarket Syncros sticker at one point, and you can see a bit of their ghost images. Aside from these mentioned blemishes, the paint looks fresh, glossy, and awesome.
Components are mostly mint, pristine, or NOS. NOS parts include the tires (supple and not cracked/dry), seatpost, cables/housing, and chainring bolts. Crank is freshly polished and is in near mint condition. Derailleurs, shifters, brakes/pads, and wheels are excellent or near mint. All Ringle parts are excellent.
